The Goodspeed Guild is a volunteer organization dedicated to supporting Goodspeed Musicals’ operations and productions. Since 1975, it has provided services to artists, patrons, and staff on a year-round basis, while offering our members the opportunity to become part of the behind-the-scenes activities at Goodspeed. We are looking for more members to assist us in this important undertaking.
Our core responsibilities are listed below and members sign up for committees that interest them and fit into their schedules.
Company Hospitality – The Guild provides 6 welcome dinners for incoming casts and crew for the shows at the Main Stage and Chester. The members are asked to set-up, clean-up and prepare and serve meals to welcome the group upon their arrival. These events have become a hallmark of the Guild’s talents and are an anticipated event. The Guild also hosts 3 picnics once during the run of each Main Stage production. And during the week prior to the opening of each Main Stage show, the Guild provides baked goods for the crew who are involved in the 24-hour 6-day “change-over” from one show to the next.
Ushering – Guild members support the Theatre’s House Management staff by providing ushers for both the Opera House and The Norma Terris Theatre. The Guild ushers during Wednesday matinee performances as well as evenings when needed.
Tours – Docents are stationed throughout the Opera House for behind-the-scenes tours. Regular tours are open to the public and run on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m from June 14 through October 25, 2008. Scheduled special tours for clubs, organizations and other private groups are scheduled according to need and availability of the theatre. All docents are trained with a prepared script. Transportation – Members support the theatre’s Company Management department by providing rides to and from the Old Saybrook train station and other destinations. For this committee, proximity to East Haddam and Chester is a consideration. A trip stipend is offered.
Concierge – Guild members greet and help patrons at the Opera House 1 hour before each performance.
Gardening – Guild members are involved in the beautification of the theatre. During the season, they prepare the floral arrangements that are seen in the Opera House. During the spring, summer, and fall, they are busy with additional outside arrangements and flower boxes at the rehearsal studio.
As needed – The Guild members are often times called to assist in other areas requested by the Opera House administration. Guild members perform Office Rescue tasks, and providing clerical skills to various departments as requested. Those who possess sewing skills are called upon to assist in the preparation of costumes for the shows.
The Guild members receive a monthly newsletter to advise them of the upcoming activities which volunteers will be needed. The Guild schedules social events for the members which include luncheons and Opera House educational events. Our membership is $15 per year and further information about membership and the Guild can be obtained by calling Amy Campbell at (203) 494-7328.
